Shock Post Office closure
Following the sudden closure of the Oval Post office next to Asda Supermarket, many residents have expressed their frustration about not being able to access Post Office Services locally.
Cllr Aiden Wells and local Lib Dem campaigner James Brown have contacted the Post Office about when residents could expect services to resume.
In a statement from the Post Office a spokesperson said, “Unfortunately, the branch is temporarily closed for operational reasons. We sincerely apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused by the branch closure and to customers who may be travelling further to access services. The Area Manager is working with the postmaster to try and restore services as soon as possible.”
Campaigner James Brown commented “Post Office services are an essential life line to many residents including the most vulnerable who are not able to travel into town to access banking services, collect pensions or even purchase Meals on Wheels vouchers”
Cllr Aiden Wells added “We will be keeping in close contact with the Post Office so that there can be a quick restoration to services. In the meantime, residents can still access services at the Carlton Centre and in St Giles”
