Conservative police cuts to hit Glebe hard
Conservative police cuts to hit Glebe hard as Lincolnshire’s Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner is set to cut frontline policing in Lincoln and across the county.
The plans involve cutting 41 of the 91 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), which leaves Glebe with no PCSO cover. PSCO’s powers include giving someone a fixed-penalty notice (eg for littering). These cuts come at a time when crime has increased in Lincoln over the last year (according to data from crimerate.co.uk).
Councillor Aiden Wells commented: “From speeding on Wolsey Way, motorbikes riding over our parks and drug related anti-social behaviour - our communtiy needs more bobbies on the beat, not even less cover. The Conservative cuts will undoubtedly make it harder to tackle these issues. “We do know that when frontline policing decisions are made, resources often follows reporting. I’d therefore urge everyone who witnesses or is affected by crime to report it (999 in an emergency, online or call 101 for non-emergency).It is clear that the Conservatives have lost touch with the concerns of local residents.”
The Lib Dems are calling on the Commissioner to reverse the cuts to PCSO numbers to retain our local bobbies, and return to community policing so that we see more police on our streets day to day.
